February 25 & 26 in Boulder – The Dairy Center for the Arts!

This is the notice Mr Dave Fulker, the bandleader for this engagement sent:

Dear friends,
Perhaps many of you already know that I’ll join forces with Don Grusin, Robert Johnson, Teresa Carroll, Mark Diamond and Christian Teele in a Dairy Center jazz concert at 7:30 PM and 6:00 PM respectively on the evenings of 25- and 26-February. We rehearsed last week, and I’m buzzed!

The usual translations of “saudade” from Portuguese include “missing,” “longing,” “yearning,” “nostalgia” or even “blues” for something loved. However, Don—who frequently performs with Brazilians, sometimes in Brazil—tells me this common word in Brazilian song and literature often connotes a sense of place, akin to homesickness.

Don and I both count trains among our most vivid home-town memories, so “Night Train to Saudade” is an interesting juxtaposition of notions around which to build a concert. Especially fun for me has been working up Don’s composition, Night Train to Paris, (from his Trans Atlántica album). Similarly, Robert and Teresa have chosen songs that I think will convey you to your own place of saudade!

The Dairy is ramping up its own publicity today, so you’d be well advised to score your tickets soon, by clicking this Web link to Jazz at the Dairy.
Hoping to see you in the Gordon Gamm Theater,
Dave
